I was so happy to see that Danielle was spending some time with Keene. I secretly hope they fall in love.

I’m waiting in Danielle’s room while she’s just getting home. She walks in and smiles.

“So… I saw you were out with Keene today. What were you up to?” I ask.

She puts her packages on the floor and joins me and Boo on her bed. “Mother wanted me to get together with him to discuss some of the wedding plans that you can’t be a part of,” she tells me. “I was helping him pick out your wedding gift and planning the honeymoon.” I see a certain sadness in her eyes. I consider how she must be feeling about all of this.

“That must’ve been hard for you,” I say.

She nodded. “I’m making my peace with it. I’ll be fine.”

“Remember, we’re going to find a way to fix this. You’ll be with Keene, and I’ll be with Matteo,” I tell her.

“I’m not so sure. This seems like a hopeless situation,” she says sadly.

“Mother fired Matteo today,” I told her.

“What? No, I really like him. What happened?” She seems surprised.

I told her everything.

“Wow, that’s awful. I can’t believe she would do that. That’s not right. His father is the one who did that to us so long ago? Wow. But it’s not Matteo’s fault. Like you told Mother, it has nothing to do with him. We should talk to her.”

I nod. “Let’s give it a day or two for her to cool down first.”

“Of course.” Danielle reaches over and hugs me. “We’ll make this right. We’ll get you out of this nightmare, somehow!”
